Utilization of Computer Technology in Nursing Practice: A Focus on Institutional Factors among Nurse - Midwives in Kwale County, Kenya

Abstract


ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to institutional related factors in the utilization of computer technology amongst Nurse-midwives in nursing practice in Kwale County.  Method used was institution based descriptive cross-sectional design which was done in Kwale County and the targeted population were the nurse-midwives working at Msambweni, Kwale and Kinango Hospitals with a sample size of 141. The study on institutional related factors revealed that availability of policies, guidelines, regulations did not influence utilization of computer technology (χ2 (1, N=141) =0.047, p=0.828),  (χ2 (1, N=141) =0.047, p=0.828), (χ2 (1, N=0.000), p=0.986) respectively. On conclusion majority of the institutions did not have guidelines, regulations, or policies governing the utilization of computer technology and neither did they have free WI-FE and Computers. The researcher gave his recommendation On determining institutional related factors the Kwale County Director of Nursing services through the CEC health and Kwale County health committee should take the initiative to capacity build the nurses and health institutions by equipping them with infrastructural and technical support in form of computers, trainings and free WI-FE.
